Rio, Patras Greece

Rio is a town in Greece, located on the outskirts of Patras next to Cape Rio, famous since ancient times, for the entrance to the Gulf of Corinth. The cape in front of it, on the coast of Aetolia was called, by opposition, Anti-river or also Aetolian River. Thucydides mentions that Rio of Achaea was where the Peloponnesians lifted a trophy, after the battle of Nafpaktos. The Athenian Alcibiades tried to erect fortifications in Rio years later, in 419 BC. But troops from Corinth, Sicyon, and other cities that might feel threatened by these walls prevented him from doing so.
