Agia Marina, Leros Greece

In the heart of the Dodecanese archipelago, the island of Leros is home to a small jewel of perfect Greek style: Agia Marina. This place represents an important natural harbor of the island and opens under the slopes of a green hill. The history of Agia Marina is linked to the dominations that happened over the centuries, from the Persian populations, through the Athenians and Spartans, to the Ottoman domination. In the early twentieth century, Italy also expanded to the territories between Greece and Turkey, reaching Agia Marina. During World War II it was bombed by the Luftwaffe, and later it was also attacked, a long and hard resistance of the Italian armed forces on the island. In Agia Marina we can see white streets with blue doors and windows of classical Greek style, a variety of taverns, bars, cafes and restaurants; its beautiful mill, the church of Christ the Savior, among many other things.
